Erika Katherine is a multi-media visual artist creating in Canton, Ohio. Inspired by her love for fantasy, dark art, and surrealism, Erika has created a whimsical aesthetic in her work—featuring the cute, the creepy, and the strange. In her creative process, she starts with a colorful illustration that is later transformed into a 3D piece of art. She creates character sculptures and surreal worlds from found objects that were once considered trash, polymer/paper clays, and epoxy resin. Other mediums she has experience with include acrylic paints, watercolor, colored pencils, and body and face paint. She has created mural art, digital designs, photography, interior designs, and set designs. Background: Erika graduated in 2014 with an associates degree in applied sciences and graphic design. After interning with the local advertising company Innis Maggiore, she decided to take her creativity in another direction. In 2015, she opened a small shop, Paint Junky Boutique, in the basement of her aunt’s hair salon, where Erika displayed a variety of consignment and handmade gifts, uniquely painted furniture, and eclectic antiques. After two years of trying the make the basement business work, Erika was in search of something more. She moved forward to focus on her own personal artwork and style development. In 2016, Erika landed a studio spot at The Hub Art Factory and has been there ever since. In her first couple of years at the Hub, Erika explored a variety of mixed mediums. Eventually, this led her to her true passion—sculpture. Erika hasn’t stopped sculpting ever since she boldly reawakened her zeal for sculpting that was ever-present during her childhood.
