Responsible for design and operation of the Center’s Information Technology virtual and physical systems. Design, and implement integrated systems consisting of fault-tolerant hardware and software capable of centralized administration.Implement procedures, and determine requirements for system availability, data backup and verification, disaster recovery, tape rotation schemes, system capacity, and configuration management plans by conducting simulations, monitoring performance, incorporating new technology and applying operating systems theories and concepts to increase efficiency and reliability.Design, establish, and manages computer security practices to assure the integrity of computer related systems is maintained and privacy of electronic data is assured.Identify security vulnerabilities and perform remediation on public-facing and internal systems and software. Department of Interior (DOI) and USGS aggressively monitors security compliance. Plan, design, install, and operate hardware and software for the efficient operation of the Local Area Network (LAN) and Storage Area Networks (SANs) such as switches, gateways, management software, and network operating systems. Plan and manage connections to wide area networks such as field stations and local university research park networks. Provide hardware and/or software solutions to scientific and support staff to meet current and future business requirements and apply, extend, enhance, or optimize the existing Information Technology architecture.
