About Erika Winner

I am currently a Master's student at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Water Resources Science Program. I am working in Dr. Salli Dymond's lab investigating the impacts of drought and watershed properties on the rainfall-runoff relationship in a coastal California forested watershed.I most recently worked as a Lead Biological Technician for the Bureau of Land Management. I lead crews for the Aquatic and Riparian Effectiveness Monitoring Program (AREMP), conducting stream surveys throughout the Pacific Northwest.I previously worked as an On Call Biologist for Mason, Bruce, and Girard, Inc., preparing maps and figures, composing text for permit applications, conducting literature reviews for biological assessments, and coding public comments for proposed environmental policy changes. For two field seasons, I worked as a Fisheries and Geomorphology Technician for Eco Logical Research, Inc., conducting salmon habitat surveys through the Columbia Habitat Monitoring Program (CHaMP).In 2017, I finished a graduate certificate at Portland State University studying Geographic Information Systems. I am interested in using GIS to examine ecological relationships, water resources, and human impacts. I hope my work can be used to inform management decisions in complex systems. I was previously the Marine Mammal Stranding Educator AmeriCorps at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center and a Forest and Wildlife Monitoring Intern at the Sequoia ForestKeeper. I attended Western Washington University and graduated June 2014. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Geology. My academic interests are in fisheries, ecology, geomorphology, and conservation. Professionally, I would like to pursue resource management and environmental consulting.
