Policy: Analyze and monitor federal and state legislative and regulatory activity of interest to Stanford. Brief senior Stanford government and community relations staff on issues of importance and coordinate with them to develop policy positions and plan strategies to further those positions. Outreach: Enhance and maintain positive working relationships with legislative and agency officials and bodies and member associations in the higher education sector to assist in developing and implementing strategies to achieve stated legislative and regulatory objectives. Research: Research and analyze issues of importance to the university. Draft position papers, statements, testimony, and presentations on these issues for review and communication to both internal and external audiences.Events: Coordinate events and campus visits of federal and state officials that further the university’s mission and government relations goals.

Assisted the Director of Federal and State Government Relations with day-to-day management and coordination of the university’s activities and relationships with federal and state governmental bodies related to regulatory and legislative issues impacting the university’s mission.

The mission of the Latino Leadership Alliance is to empower Latino leaders to promote a common voice that addresses the interests of our community, and to identify, develop, and support future leadership. A class of about 12 fellows is selected each year. Participated in an eight-month-long program for emerging Latina and Latino community leaders which included six all-day seminars on business, education, politics, and community issues, as well as a weekend spring retreat and a Stanford Leadership Summer Program to develop a class project to address a community need.

Legislation: Developed the Assemblymember's legislative portfolio, monitored and analyzed legislation in the areas of education, health, science, technology and local government, successfully carried five pieces of legislation from bill idea to law in the areas of public health, local government, education, transportation and public safety. Leadership: Managed legislative staff and helped design strategies to advance specific policy issues and legislation, managed the policy and budget priorities for the California Legislative Latino Caucus.

The CCST Science and Technology Policy Fellowship provides a unique professional development opportunity to scientists and engineers who are interested in improving the interface between science and legislative decision-making. Ten fellows are selected each year after an extensive interview process. Communication: Composed briefing documents, background materials, press releases and speeches for Assemblymember.Outreach: Served as a liaison between the Assemblymember, other legislative offices, state agencies, constituents and advocate groups. Represented the California Science & Technology Fellowship at Amgen Scholars National Symposium and in panels held at universities around the SF Bay Area. Policy Research: Researched, tracked and analyzed legislation in the areas of health, human services, education and local government.

Developed and implemented a variety of hands-on exhibits, and contributed to the Tech's online exhibit, "Ask a Geneticist" by answering questions in English and Spanish.

Supervised teaching assistants and developed curriculum for biology class.

Organized, prepared and lectured on course materials for a developmental biology class.

Served as a liaison between the Director of SSRP, the lab mentors and the undergraduate students to help identify and solve problems, and developed strong mentoring relationships with students and provided extensive career advice.
