About Erika Byrnison

I'm a marketing and communications strategist for organizations creating positive social change. I have the ability to fill multiple roles through my writing skills, advertising experience, graphic design ability, and work with data analysis. These skills have enabled me to build closer collaboration with others and to take a holistic approach to projects. At the beginning of my career, I was an advertising manager in the Broadway theatre and New York City cultural space. In my spare time, I was the Associate Producer for kef Theatrical Productions, where I was able to secure partnerships and parlay my marketing skills into sold-out performances at 59e59 Theatres (our production of The Awake was a New York Times Critic's Pick). Today I support the arts as a Director of the board for the New York City Gay Men's Chorus and Youth Pride Chorus.I enjoy travel and experiencing cultural immersion. As a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Hostelling International USA I'm an advocate for the organization's mission to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and the world around us through accessible travel. In my current role, I work as a freelance marketing consultant for both local and global clients. I enjoy my work and a challenge!

This marketing leadership role reflected the institution's focus on digital innovation and data activation. I led our team in developing creative marketing plans that utilized personalized emails and targeted advertising. I also managed our budgets and the tracking and optimization of marketing campaigns. 92Y is the home of #GivingTuesday and known for hosting the world's pre-eminent poets, writers, politicians, entertainers, executives, and scholars for readings and conversation. Director Of Marketing Operations

Greater New York City Area

I was promoted to this position to direct the strategic planning and implementation of the marketing and promotional campaigns across all of 92Y's programming, as well as to manage the marketing team. One of my priorities was to improve SEO. I also trained our team on Google AdWords.Collaborating with the public relations and web content team, I worked to implement our brand strategy and drive brand awareness. Oct 2018 - Apr 2019

Assistant Director, Marketing And Business Development

Greater New York City Area

I was promoted to this role to concentrate on marketing particular program centers- 92Y's Poetry Center, Ceramics Center, Parenting Center and Residence, as well as our thrice annual season launches. At the same time, I was made the producer for our annual 17-block Street Festival, which generates revenue while marketing our fall programs and cultivating community goodwill. One of my priorities was engaging in competitive research for two programs in swiftly changing markets. The results led to a shift in communications that included re-branding one program with a new photo shoot (creating a 3-D tour) and working with multiple departments to bring the other program's registration online, amongst other changes. Both programs generate significant revenue. I was glad to be able to implement changes requested by staff to make their experience working the Street Festival more enjoyable. I was still able to find efficiencies that saved over 15% of the Street Festival's production budget my first year as producer, and more savings the following year. I also created the original script and now-template used by professional talent on our main stage.

Jan 2017 - Sep 2018

Advertising And Promotions Manager

Greater New York City Area

I was brought on to create and manage media plans for the institution, program centers, and special initiatives. My responsibilities included creating copy and direction, working with our in-house studio on production. In my first year, the advertising budget was drastically cut due to the 2008 market crash. With my experience working with smaller budgets for other cultural organizations, I was able to adapt and find effective new ways to promote our programming and preserve revenue. Even with much smaller advertising budgets, 92Y achieved record-breaking ticket sales. This included diligently tracking ad performance; finding new, undervalued media outlets; effectively messaging our current audience; and developing partnerships with other institutions and media. I worked with our Director of Web to implement Google Analytics and trained marketing managers on creating tracking links and reading reports. On the promotions side, in our department I specialized in valuing institutional assets. I developed strategies and presentations for attracting media partners, which included The Wall Street Journal, WNYC, WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM, and others. I also led 92Y's participation in MasterCard's Priceless campaign.I developed a pricing strategy and media kit for a new Restaurant Partners program and program advertising, creating new sources of revenue. In addition, I organized 92Y's participation in WQXR's Instrument Drives for underfunded NYC Public School music programs. We collected 228 instruments our first year, drawing new community members through our doors and particularly having a positive impact for the folks in our 60+ seniors program.
