About Erika Nolte, Ph.D.
I completed my Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Kansas. My dissertation research developed small molecule compounds for mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegeneration. I worked extensively with rodent models of neurodegeneration and developed six genetically engineered lines for this research. My experiments tied animal behavior studies on cognition to molecular studies on enzyme activities, protein interactions, energy production, and cell death. While finishing my degree, I began working as a scientific grant writer, with a focus on small business initiatives. Upon graduation, I began working at the Houston Methodist Research Institute, where I worked with researchers in a variety of clinical and basic research fields on funding mechanisms and manuscript submissions. As a senior scientific writer, I was responsible for developing scientific, education, and training grants and manuscripts. Additionally, I work with executive leadership to develop communication strategies and documents. At Houston Methodist, I transitioned to a program management role, which included project management for data collection and reporting at departmental and institutional levels. I developed standard operating procedures for impact reporting, including financial analysis. Finally, I worked with our key stakeholders to develop institutional strategic plans, including recent plans for infectious disease research and education. After three years at Houston Methodist, I have translated the many skills I developed working in academia to the fast-paced world of biotechnology. I serve as the scientific director for Ready. Set. Food!, which produces early allergy introduction products.
Listed skills include Research, Animal Behavior, Western Blotting, Pharmacology, and 15 others.
