This internship took me in a new direction into the world of electrical engineering. I worked on a variety of electrical power design projects from new lighting tie-ins to commercial and utility scale solar panel installations.During this Internship, my responsibilities included:●Sizing the key components for power distribution and PV applications including PV panels, inverters, OCPDs, conductors, panel boards, and supporting hardware based on the NEC.●Designing PV systems in terms of location, string size and layout●Drafting full sets of electrical engineering drawings for PV and other general power distribution projects.●Creating Excel based calculators and scripts with the VBA codebase to streamline the PV system design process.I learned new software and developed my skills in previously used software including: ●AutoCAD●SKM Electrical System Analysis●AGI Lighting●Excel VBA Programming

I was able to work on a wide variety of new build and refit projects, including in the healthcare field, applying my gained knowledge in thermodynamics and fluids.During this Co-op, I performed a wide range of tasks including:●Drafting engineering drawings with floor/elevation plans, schedules, and specifications of HVAC hardware using AutoCAD●Performing calculations related to pressure drop, flow rate, equipment sizing, etc.●Reviewing shop drawings●Performing site visits to review existing conditions of HVAC systems●On-site commissioning and balancing of HVAC equipmentOther skills I developed include:●Becoming proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and other software●Juggling many projects and meeting weekly deadlines for deliverables●Learning how to work within the considerations of outside parties such as contractors and architects●Researching relevant city/mechanical codes for design considerations
Over the past couple of years I have done several data-related projects for Nor-Cal, including price comparison and organization of their entire 2400-part catalog. In these projects, I had to transform and organize data as well as calculate volumetric dimensions and theoretical weights to be used in the Company's eCommerce activities. This consolidation of information into one place allowed for easier referencing of information for many other purposes as well. Through these projects, I significantly increased my knowledge of and efficiency with Excel and its advanced functions and formulae.

In this position, I was able to take a hands-on role in the manufacturing setting, working closely with foundry and machine shop equipment. I was able to work with highly experienced machinists, electricians, and foundry workers, learning their trade.
