Currently motivate three separate teams of detectives who investigate domestic violence incidents, sex offenders/predators and cargo theft crimes. I manage the daily operations of sex offender tracking, registrations, and violations. The Sex Offender/Predator Unit consist of a registrar clerk and two full time detectives who manage more than a thousand persons convicted of sexual related crimes. The Domestic Violence Unit is comprised of two specialized detectives and a SHIELD Detective (Surviving Harmful Interactions through Electronic Location Devices) who review cases of Intimate Partner Violence and hold offenders accountable. The DV unit reviews inmate communication to assist in protecting victims of continued harassment, assist victim’s in obtaining injunctions and investigate additional historical violence to properly document the larger picture of abuse and assist with access to resources to break the cycle of violence. Management of the Cargo Theft Unit involves detectives who assist from the agency property crimes and major crimes units in the detection, investigation and apprehension of criminals who seek to steal commodities that has entered the interstate or intrastate stream of commerce. I facilitate interagency cooperation with state and federal partners, to include the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, The Federal Bureau of Investigations and The United States Marshal’s Service as well as originate specialized federal grants for targeted investigations.

I conducted investigations into the use of force incidents, managed calls for service and reviewing citizen complaints. As the on-duty supervisor, I responded to all major in progress calls for service to establish command of the critical incidents and provide for an organized approach in managing the manpower resources, monitor the safety of all person(s) and verify that proper policies and procedures are followed to reduce or manage the risk created to the public.

As the senior detective for Marion County, I investigated numerous person crimes which included homicide, kidnapping, rape, robbery, homeland security threats, aviation fatalities, officer involved deaths, PREA sexual abuse, child sexual abuse, physical child abuse, financial crimes, cargo theft, exploitation, white collar crimes cases and conducted electronic surveillance. During this time, I assisted the local children’s advocacy center with the Child Protection Team and Multi-Disciplinary team which conducts interagency review of recent cases with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Medical Examiner’s Office, and other Community Partners. I also organized and implemented a county wide Banking Intelligence Committee to assist local industries and Florida Banking Association, which included safe holiday shopping awareness in the community. I routinely use telecommunication technology and social media in efforts to detect crimes, locate subjects and arrest wanted fugitives.

While assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes section, I conducted investigations into local burglaries, thefts, and frauds with a geographic emphasis on the Southeast district community which extends between the cities of Ocala and Belleview, Florida. Additional duties included enforcement of Pawn Broker laws, investigating focused community concerns, and assisting patrol deputies with identified “hot-spots” and criminal trends. I initiated a mentoring program to allow patrol deputies to gain additional investigative experience through shadowing detectives and assisting with interviews, evidence collection and case management.

In this capacity, I was assigned to a patrol shift through several different districts within our agency jurisdiction to include Southwest, Northwest, South Central Silver Springs and Southeast. I responded to general calls for service, which at times included stressful high-risk conditions and active in progress incidents. Community policing and teamwork were core tenants of our duties in enforcement of criminal laws, civil process, traffic violations, and support of other federal, state, or local agencies to protect the community. This position was typically the first line of contact with the community and was paramount to identify, stop and apprehend persons suspected of committing crimes as well as collection, preservation and documentation of potential incidents and scenes. During this time, I also assisted in training and mentoring other team members and exercised independent judgement to provide for the safety and welfare of the public.

During my tenure, I was assigned to the level 6 juvenile commitment facility operated by the agency as a sworn law enforcement officer. Function included care, custody and control of teenage, incarcerated males as well as aftercare supervision in the communities of Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, Indian River, St Lucie and Martin Counties. I also conduct unit level training to maintain staff readiness in Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.

Ft. Hood, Texas

As a flight crew chief in a forward aviation cavalry scout unit, I was tasked with inspecting and maintaining a platoon of OH-58c (Bell 206) helicopters and facilitating the flight support as a crew member. I also served as the troop’s Advanced Party Commander and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Coordinator. We maintained a ready deployment status as a III Corps direct asset (Ft Hood, Texas) for immediate worldwide dispatch and threat defense support. During this time, my unit participated in Joint Task Force Six, Theater Missle Defense Operations, World Helicopter Competition and excelled through the National Training Center at Ft Irwin with a special mention of highest rotation scoring. My additional experience included heavy wheeled operations, aviation support equipment utilization and team firearms coaching. My time qualifies me to obtain a civilian A&P certification.
