I was responsible for all technical documentation for all the products and systems for the three business areas of the formerly named Saab Marine Electronics.

I worked in a small group developing a new gearbox system. We designed an automatic gearbox based on a manual one with a microcomputer, pneumatic actuators, sensors, etc. The product was later launched as Geartronic, which became a success for Volvo Trucks.

I worked at the technical department of Stena AB with a project for reducing the fuel consumption of ships in the Stena sphere of operations. Hans-Lennart Peterson and I developed routines, equipment and software for measuring, monitoring and presenting performance data from each ship. I used my a combination of programming skills and my knowledge as a naval architect to produce algorithms for neutralizing the external effects of varying draft, seastate, wind, trim etc., so that you could compare different ships’ performance on totally different routes. It was a very successful project and was claimed to save up to 20% fuel on some ships.
