“Anthropology is the most humanistic of the sciences and the most scientific of the humanities." - Alfred L. KroeberOver 50 years ago the human species accomplished the inconceivable feat of sending people to the moon and bringing them safely back home. Yet over half a century later we still are unable to predict the most significant events impacting humans here on earth including recessions, insurgencies, and the outcomes of elections. Why is that? Predicting the behavior of our incredibly unpredictable 'wise' species, Homo sapiens, is one of the most complex challenges of our times. While we may never be able to accurately forecast how humans react to a given set of circumstances, what we can do is begin to unravel the cultural, social, and psychological conditions and influences that impact why we do the things we do in an effort to influence behavior in the future. The paradigm of anthropological analysis offers the most holistic approach to understanding human perception and behavior by investigating how culture, history, language, and evolutionary psychology influence our thoughts and actions. That's what I do - decipher the complexities of consumer culture to build more meaningful brands and deeper connections with your target audience.
