Duties: As the senior copywriter and copy editor I was responsible for most channels of communication for the company. And, as part of an extremely small creative team, some of my responsibilities extended beyond what would be expected of a copywriter. My responsibilities included: • Writing SEO-driven copy for product pages, category and gateway pages, longform learning articles and more. • Generating creative copy for emails, on-site banners and graphics, web and print ads, and more. • Editing, formatting and writing technical copy for product manuals, user’s guides and packaging. • Coordinating and editing a team of outsource writers and freelancers. • Researching and writing industry-specific whitepapers. • Managing and creating content for the company’s blog and social media platforms. • Writing press releases as well as coordinating inbound media requests. • Scripting and storyboarding both educational and marketing videos. • When required, stepping in to do some graphic design work and HTML editing.

The Wake is the student magazine of the University of Minnesota. As copy editor I worked almost entirely independently checking copy for grammar and style errors for the entire magazine. I wrote everything from features to short pieces in nearly every area of interest from science to pop culture. I was also the magazine’s restaurant reviewer from 10/07 to 04/08.

In the summer of 2007, I received a research grant from the University of Minnesota in the field of mass communication and sociology. The position was a great learning experience, in that it enabled me to work closely with University staff and field experts, while also allowing me to independently research an academic interest of mine.
