Erik-Jan Bos is an independent IT and management professional, with a vast experience in designing and building advanced data (network) systems and leading large and international multi-stakeholder community efforts. His largest project right now is advancing the plan for Polar Connect, the ambitious plan for a data communications submarine cable between Northern Europe and East Asia, on a unique a short route across the Arctic Ocean.As of early 2011, he has worked from his private company in the not-for-profit sector with assignments in Europe and globally.His largest endeavor until now was with NORDUnet, the Nordic Gateway for Research and Education, serving the R&E Networks of Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. At NORDUnet, Erik-Jan fulfilled the role of Policy & Strategy Officer, closely working with NORDUnet’s upper management and the Nordic R&E Networks to push the boundaries of what is technically and financially possible, always keeping the community perspective in mind. On behalf of NORDUnet, Erik-Jan served as the founding co-Secretary of the Global R&E Network CEO Forum, a community of Executive Leaders of the world’s most active and advanced R&E Networks.Before starting his own company, Erik-Jan worked at SURFnet, the Dutch national R&E Network, for more than 23 years. During this period he led his teams in designing, procuring, contracting, building and operating the various instances of SURFnet's world leading network infrastructure, with awesome connectivity to other parts of the world. When he left SURFnet, back in 2011, he was SURFnet's CTO.In the ~35 years that Erik-Jan has been working in advanced IT and management areas, he always believed that collaboration is key.
