Sleep is as essential for life as oxygen and water - why don’t we get enough? The unknowns of sleep and the lack of sufficient sleep are significant problems today and I do enjoy solving problems. In my current role at Design-Zyme, I am working to overcome problems related to biological uses of unique carbohydrate compounds. This includes improving mucosal delivery of vaccines, enhancing the gut microbiome, and improving adjuvants for novel vaccine compounds. In other roles, I have successfully worked on projects related to recording real-time neural function and brain activity, biosensors, neuron-electrode interfacing, catecholamine sensing, and rodent neurosurgery. I have managed preclinical animal projects and worked with multiple engineering design teams to bring 12 original products to the marketplace. Looking back, probably the most difficult problem I ever had to solve was how to simultaneously acquire EEG brain activity, real-time brain glucose, and brain lactate from a single, moving mouse over the course of a day. I am an accomplished scientific and technical author with 14 peer-reviewed scientific publications and I am a joint inventor on 2 patent-pending applications. I have extensive experience at writing successful scientific grants for both public and private organizations including the NIH, NSF, NASA, DARPA, The Glenn Foundation, The Hewlett Foundation, and Wellcome Leap.I believe that education and life-long learning are exceptionally important. Everyone should be given the opportunity, resources and training necessary for continued intellectual development. My major interests include: flying (private pilot), tennis/pickleball, and investment psychology.Specialties: Sleep, Circadian Rhythms, Neuroscience, Biotech, R&D, Microbiology, Vaccine Research, Biomedical Engineering, Instrumentation Development, Project Design, Project Leadership, Presentations, Technology Deployment, Grant Writing, Proposal Development, Lab Management, Scientific Research, Relationship Building, Communications, Mentoring, and Training.
