I joined Research and Technology team of Cummins Generator Technologies in Oct. 2007 as Electromagnetic Design Engineer. My primary focus was:1) Gathering and Understanding of customer needs - This is an interactive process trying to come up with specification of the product so that customer's needs are satisfied and the specification reflects our business targets an capabilities.2) Concept selection process, when the aim is to offer the top technical solution with consideration of the product specification.3) Design of Electric motors/generators under multiphysics approach. I focus on electromagnetic, thermal and control design of drives so that performance, size and efficiency of entire drives is maximized. I work in close touch with power electronics and mechanical designers and have very good understanding of entire system. The primary application of these research activities is vehicular technology. I'm currently finishing a project of novel axial flux permanent magnet motor/generator with field weakening capability. This machine represents cutting-edge technology in many aspects.4) Practical work - I support out team of technicians during manufacturing/assembly process and sort out any issues related to the project. I keep in my mind principles of Design for Manufacturing from early beginning of the project so that transition from research to (pre)production phase is smooth. Meanwhile, I negotiate supplies of components and actively search for new suppliers.5) Application of Six-Sigma tools. I finished four-weeks long Green-belt level training and already accomplished first six sigma project. I have launched already a follow-up project and tend to achieve 6S certificate soon. I apply six sigma principles and tools in everyday work.

Main focus of my work used to be in development of Finite-Element models of synchronous generators in ANSYS followed by programming of scripts so that calculations were automated eventually. I worked closely with development team of the company on enhancement of the current design of the product. This was a part time job besides my studies at Brno University of Technology.
