I enjoy finding ways to accomplish complex research objectives by learning new methodologies while drawing upon my diverse 15 years of biotech experience.I am currently with Kyowa Kirin Pharmaceutical Research developing antisense therapeutics targeting autoimmune diseases. Previously I was at Celgene leading cellular mechanism-of-action studies for a small-molecule program targeting cancer metabolism. I developed and validated high-content imaging assays to determine cytological effects of inhibitors of stress metabolism pathways, and generated proof-of-concept studies demonstrating sensitivity of leukemia cells to pharmacological alterations of epigenetic and metabolic pathways. For 6 years I worked on advanced biotechnology R&D projects at Leidos Corp (formerly SAIC), translating cutting edge science into useful solutions. I helped find wound-specific binding sites (patented) and fabricated wound-binding microspheres for delivering a hemostatic agent (published 2016). I helped develop a way to detect foreign genetic modifications in organisms, without prior knowledge of what these modifications are (published 2015). I cloned, expressed and characterized membrane receptors used as biosensors for detecting explosive-making materials and most recently, worked on the development of a portable system capable of rapidly manufacturing therapeutic proteins in the field (published 2015, patent pending). Before joining SAIC/Leidos, I worked at Sangart, where I used sophisticated in vivo techniques to investigate physiological effects of artificial blood on transgenic mice expressing the human sickle cell mutation.I earned my Master’s Degree investigating neuronal growth and regeneration at the University of California - Irvine and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from San Diego State University. I currently have a security clearance.
