After 17 years in a prominent non-profit and bipartisan think tank on foreign affairs, national security, and international economics, in 2010 I shifted into the business sphere—to Kearney's Global Business Policy Council (GBPC), a private-sector think tank. I can't imagine a more interesting and important new set of challenges. Our overarching goal at the GBPC is to develop insight on current and future trends that enables our clients to be genuinely strategic in a world of massively disruptive change. What an opportunity—to help position the people and institutions around us to anticipate the implications of the global drivers now at work. The Council was established in 1992 by my far-sighted colleague Paul Laudicina (GBPC Founder & Chairman Emeritus of Kearney) to help leaders in business, government and the non-profit world anticipate and prepare for the future. The rationale for the GBPC was as compelling then as it is today. The need for corporate, government, and academic leaders to discuss and advance their thinking on major issues—globalization, geopolitics, trade, foreign direct investment, and innovation and diffusion of technology, among others—is all the more important in light of the dramatic geopolitical, economic, social, and technological transformation sweeping the planet. For me, it has been a great transition. I moved from one terrific group of people to another, and I am now thoroughly enjoying the challenge not only of deciphering macro trends but also identifying what they mean for specific businesses and industries. This year, for the eighth year running, the Council was acknowledged by the respected University of Pennsylvania "2020 Go To Think Tank Index Report" as one of the top for-profit think tanks in the world. This distinction only strengthens our determination to play a more significant role in connecting the worlds of business, government, academia and civil society.

Partner & Managing Director, Kearney Global Business Policy CouncilKearney Jan 2010 - PresentArlington, VaAt Partner level (elected December 2012), working through Kearney's Global Business Policy Council to provide insight to business leaders on key global trends. The Council is focusing on three key contributions to Kearney and its clients:> First, we are dedicated to designing, developing and carrying out world-class meetings in order to offer clients the most timely, far-reaching and comprehensive insight possible. > Second, there is the pronounced need for timely insight generated within the Council itself. We look to generate home-made analysis as well as perspective informed by our remarkable global network of subject matter experts.> Third, we work shoulder-to-shoulder with management consultant colleagues on special projects that require the unique emphasis that our Council provides. All three of these exciting areas represent remarkable opportunities to generate new ideas, fashion new approaches, and arrive at new conclusions. It is really a "target-rich" environment as we all seek to address the relentless change around us.

Managing Director, Global Business Policy CouncilA.T. Kearney Jan 2010 - Jan 2013Vienna, VirginiaMy first three years at A.T. Kearney were devoted to developing the firm's Global Business Policy Council. We have built substantial momentum in this period, starting with high-profile meetings in St. Petersburg, Shanghai and Istanbul that addressed the burning issues of the day as well as the various challenges on the horizon. -
Senior Vice PresidentCenter For Strategic And International Studies Sep 1992 - Jan 2010I began at CSIS by serving as Director of Studies, working with all the various functional and regional "programs," or departments, on existing and prospective projects. It was an amazing and challenging period, coming as it did soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the transformation of many developing countries, and transformative developments in the Middle East.Later, I established the Global Strategy Institute within CSIS. It was a kind of an incubator--focusing on global trends, forecasting, contingency-analysis, and carrying out scenario planning. With a terrific team, we did a lot of innovative work in areas such as the geopolitics of water to the developing situation in Afghanistan. One of the highlights is the project I did with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the New York Times. Together, we developed an electronic system for dissemination to the AASCU network of more than 400 colleges and universities for the "Seven Revolutions" Initiative I launched when at CSIS--an initiative that continues to this day.
