Assist public safety agencies and local government with improving disaster resilience and response capabilities for 80,000 residents of Benton County. Still active in SAR, which fortunately means still working with phenomenal volunteers. Lots to learn, great people to learn from.

Design and implement a stable program of training for staff and volunteers of widely varied levels of knowledge. Manage records, recruit specialized trainers, develop interagency partnerships, lead training sessions, conduct communications campaigns, and ensure compliance with local, state, and national regulations. Conduct ongoing evaluations of program success and identify unmet needs. Collaborated with members of health care industry, academic community, local groups, and all relevant government agencies.

Responded to a wide variety of emergency incidents with responsibilities including establishing & maintaining unit integrity, incident facility security, and crime scene access control in a tremendous variety of conditions. Worked with other local, regional, and national emergency management, law enforcement, fire, and medical groups using DHS, FEMA, and OSHA standard procedures.

Management duties included scheduling, conducting performance evaluations, training employees and monitoring performance in technical and professional skills. With businesses, professionals, and general customers, quickly & effectively determined needs for hardware, software, and networking: clearly described CPU’s, operating systems, wireless networking equipment, and similar.

Recruited, supervised, and trained other volunteers in fireground operations, EMS procedures, and strategy and tactics. Established and maintained relationships with local, state, and federal agencies to provide training and cohesive response to emergency incidents including wildland/urban interface fires, motor vehicle accidents, controlled burns, and motor vehicle accidents.

Recruited, trained, and supervised volunteers including international students and professionals during daily operations and complex events. Worked directly with researchers in environmental science, biology, botany, geophysics, and astronomy to translate research into general audience presentations and peer trainings. Planned and administered public relations program for public talks: identifying speakers, preparing press releases, and interacting with TV, radio, print and web media.

Researched and wrote small business success stories highlighting the missions and goals of the Hawai‘i SBDC Network. Met deadlines and requirements for funding agencies, including state & federal legislature and US SBA. Interviewed clients, customers, and staff members, then wrote story to suit needed medium and audience: legislative lobbying, print brochures, and Internet publications.

Interpreted cutting edge scientific research for public outreach to senior journalists at a premiere multinational astronomical observatory. Developed and maintained professional relationships with diverse groups both internally and externally: academic, cultural, logistical, ecological, and engineering. Worked successfully with executive-level academic administrators, international media, and renowned scientific researchers, always in a multilingual environment.

At an ISO Class 2 fire department, responded to motor vehicle accidents, fires, medical calls, and HAZMAT incidents. Conducted fireground operations with FEMA, OSHA, and USFA communications and response standards for industrial, transportation, commercial, and residential areas. Assisted Fire Marshall with business, residential, and industrial fire investigations and prefire inspections using NFPA, NSC, OSHA, and DHHS regulations. Supervised and evaluated performance of six firefighter recruits during training and emergency operations.
