Commelius Solutions Ltd offers various B2B training services and had just been bought out by venture capitalist Jon Moulton and gone through an administration process, when I was recruited. The company had performed poorly for many years and needed to undergo a drastic overhaul. My brief when I started was restructuring of the business to ensure a solid financial business model. I was also tasked to build a commercially focused finance department and improve client management through proper analysis of profitability and resource utilisation.Specific actions include 400k of cost cutting measures (office closures, rent re-negotiations, staff reductions, work-from-home schemes, closure of nonviable business lines and re-negotiation of supplier and customer terms), while ensuring retained staff were kept motivated. Helped improve revenue by changing sales incentive scheme encouraging cross divisional sales. Built a pricing tool and price matrix for a ground-breaking new cloud based service. Ensured thorough, reoccurring commercial analysis of the client database, (GM, resource requirements and payment history). Prepared (with the MD and the Board) an IPO to find additional funding for further expansion.

The company offers point of sales hardware and software to retail businesses with a global scope and was acquired by the private equity firm Better Capital (founded by Jon Moulton) in 2011. The company was in need of an overhaul of its organisation and I was hired to come up with a plan to improve the performance of the Nordic subsidiary. This business area had in the last few years suffered from poor EBITDA performance.To turn around the performance I re-organized the region (closed local offices in marginal markets [Norway and Finland], re-allocated key roles to Stockholm where the MD was located), in cooperation with the warehouse manager we changed the criteria for what needed to be stocked locally vs centrally, which enabled DSI to improve by 21%.

Carphone Warehouse AB is the Nordic subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse Plc, a retail chain in the FMCG market, offering mobile products and services utilizing a multi-channel approach. It was the most profitable subsidiary within the group during my time at company.My brief was to reform the Finance department in so that it added tangible value by being pro-active and better integrated with the rest of the organisation. The existing vs required skills of the team was mapped and I put in place training to reform the team. I successfully outsourced non-core staff to SSC in Portugal (and later on to India) while keeping key resources retained and motivated. I massively improved the month end process, delivering the management reports in half the time required by HQ, (we had by far the fastest reporting cycling within The Carphone Warehouse/Best Buy Group), and I was asked to support and guide other subsidiaries how to achieve this improvement.

EDB is the largest IT consultancy provider in Norway and the 3rd largest in Sweden. They grew through an M&A strategy and as a consequence had a business area [BA] that did not fully fit with the overall long term goal. Besides being Business Controller of two BAs in need of improved internal processes, I was tasked to find a buyer of the aforementioned non-core BA and to initiate a due diligence process. I identified, presented and negotiated with 3 possible buyers of the non-core business and successfully managed the due diligence processes in connection of the sale. The transition of the BA to the new owner was smooth and without any issues.

Axsiom Pty Ltd was newly acquired when I joined the company. It was a PE backed business offering SMEs financing solutions when updating telephony and office technology.I was brought to Australia by Mr de Rothschild with a focus to build up a finance department that provided value added support to the SMT. My key focusing was on ensuring overall profitability, stringent cost control and customer analysis. I also created quoting and financing tools that allowed sales reps to do simultaneous submission to multiple refinancing companies while out on the field, something our competitors lacked.

Initially I was responsible for the Market analysis and Strategic marketing of the newly started Telia International Carrier with the main focus to assist in finding potential markets for the company to target, as well as how to promote the company’s name abroad. With special responsibility for the tactical Marketing I was very much involved in major exhibitions such as CEBIT in Hannover, during this time I gained a lot of experience from working with projects. I had 2-3 people reporting to me directly.As the company evolved the role was changed to be the Regional Marketing and PR Director, I had the overall responsibility for the marketing, PR, and Intra company communication within Market Area North. I was responsible for the conceptualization, production and implementation of the market plans for the region (The Nordic countries, Germany and Benelux) I coordinated local business/marketing activities across 8 countries. I had the budget responsibility for each of these countries, and produced market plans with appropriate activities that were later reviewed. Market activities I produced varied and covered everything from exhibitions, conferences, customer events to information leaflets and brochures. In late 2002 the company did a re-organisation and I was appointed Business Control Manager and was given the responsiblity for the analysis of sales performances and product performances by our European and American subsidiaries. I was also responsible for the consolidation processes for the monthly financial reports, using the Cognos/Frango software. I was in charge of the quality management of business processes within the Swedish company as well as initiated, adjusted and analysed internal business processes. I was similarly involved with the business and quality analysis on an international level. I was also in charge of monitoring and analyzing all R&D projects, in Sweden as well as abroad.
