About Erik Toth

Erik Toth is a VP of Engineering, Rocket Exchange at Rocket. He possess expertise in css, java, javascript, user interface, front end development and 19 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Erik and I have worked together for about 7 years, and in that 7 years Erik has been the most prepared, knowledgeable and thoughtful technologist I have had the opportunity to work with. Erik has an unrivaled ability to understand a technical problem and define a workable solution with an complete focus on the customer. Being able to align technology with business strategy is what Erik brings to every project he is engaged with. Erik also has a healthy sense of when to apply his Change Agent abilities to drive transformation change in a large organization. Here are a couple examples of Erik’s work that I feel highlight his abilities: 1. KrakenJS - Erik lead the architecture and development of the Node.js platform at PayPal from the when the organization first started exploring using Node at PayPal. Erik wrote the primary frameworks that are still in use today on the platform that enables PayPal to consistently serve our 240 Million active customers. To take it to the next level Erik spearheaded the release of the KrakenJS framework to the Open Source Community. This was a great example of Erik leading a transformational initiative that was truly customers first. Additionally, this effort improved the developer experience at PayPal and also allowed PayPal to be an attractive destination for engineers. 2. Venmo - Erik led engineering for Venmo across three development centers, multiple domains, and a large team of client and server side engineers. Erik was directly responsible for ensuring that the platform and customer experience are able to grow and evolve with a rapidly growing business. In addition to his responsibilities running product development, Erik has spent countless hours ensuring system stability even during stressful customer impacting incidents. At Venmo, Erik has lead a large team of talented developers (and hired many), ensured Venmo had a platform set for growth, and maintained a solid grasp of the business strategy and the customer experience. The above two examples really highlight Eriks tenacity, technical ability, leadership ability, and the value Erik brings to an organization. It has been a pleasure to call Erik a coworker for the past 7 years and I have learned so much from him in that time, what a great experience it has been."
