My Link policy: I am enthusiastic about hearing from + connecting with professionals as well as students who share my interests and focus. Please be clear why you're asking to Link.........Tools for Change Making.I have been involved in promoting social and ecological sustainability since childhood, and my entire career has been one of taking on whatever topic or cluster of issues I felt I could effectively impact, while providing leverage to change the larger system in doing so. Thus my professional path has not been typical, pursuing different careers in order to learn them and add them to my expanding box of tools. Over time I've worked within early stages of, sometimes as a pioneer in many areas, most initially unrecognised. Now many have become almost mainstream: Systems and Design Thinking, Sustainability, Ecological Restoration, Permaculture, Environmental Justice, Climate Change, Community Transition and Resilience, Action Learning, Natural Capital and the Circular Economy. I hope we can say their value has been recognised "just in time", but in truth, we are very late in taking them seriously. My profile is organised to highlight a selection of skills : those I feel are most likely to make a significant contribution to the immense task before us--the urgent need for a course-correction, of humanity on spaceship Earth. -Systems Thinking, Design Thinking and Circular Economy-Support for Leaders and Entrepreneurs:

Ecological DesignerRegenerative, Sustainable Design Dec 2002 - PresentEurope And BeyondMuch of my design work is reflected in the sections on Teaching & Training, and Transformational Events. It also constitutes the defining energy flowing through Ecological Regeneration, and Capacity Building (strategic design for organisational development processes).A few highlights:- In 2002, as the Sustainable Ireland Cooperative, I and two colleagues opened a new cultural center for Dublin, the Cultivate Centre for Sustainable Living. As a cooperative, we shared varied roles, but I was the producer of design-related events and trainings. More on this under 'Events' and 'Learning' .- I launched TEPUI with 3 colleagues in 2007 as a platform to explore technologies and design which go beyond "green"; those which work directly with Nature and natural systems to accomplish what we would otherwise address via more engineered strategies. It prefers adaptive, responsive and emergent design over manipulative and prescriptive solutions.-- In 2008, Dublin City Council, who I had worked with since 2002 in crafting the Rethinking the City series of events, commissioned a study on policy options to require all new development to install green roofs. The report can be downloaded below.-- In 2009 Qatar Foundation invited me to participate in a one-week design charrette to produce a master plan for a proposed new district, the Design Zone. I supplied System Thinking processes and an overall filter for social and ecological sustainability.More detail can be found in a chronological format, attached as a PDF.........What's Next? I have a few projects in early stages of development which use landscape art to allow participants to directly experience collaborating with Nature; some based on Biomimicry, others on Bio-construction.I am also researching and developing several ideas for re-design of materials and for closed-loop production cycles. Other ongoing and future directions are listed under more appropriate sections.

Designer / Producer / AdviserTransformational Events: Conceptualization, Design And Production Nov 1985 - PresentGlobalA good event takes resources, time and a good team. It's a lot of work, and I insist the positive impact is greater than the production footprint. My events are purpose-driven, often launching new campaigns and organisations. A few examples:Design and Production:- Rainforest Action Network. San Francisco, 1985. Coordinated the production of an international retreat leading to the launch of the most successful global NGO for rainforest activism. - From the Arctic to Amazonia: Industrial Nations Exploitation of Tribal Lands. Massachusetts, 1989. Conceived, coordinated and produced the first international conference where the victims of consumerism and industrial activity brought first-hand testimonies to the consumers. This launched an NGO dedicated to helping Indigenous peoples on the front lines to coordinate globally.-Convergence Festival. Dublin IE. 2000-2008. Convergence started as a celebration of sustainable solutions and platform for educating the community. Through a steady series of learning, artistic and strategic events, the festival gave birth to a dedicated facility, The Cultivate Center for Sustainable Living. This became Ireland's national learning center for sustainability. I was involved in all aspects, from conception through fund raising and production, and continue today as an occasional adviser.Advising:- World Uranium Hearings. Munich,1990-1993. International platform to bring the local, mostly Indigenous, victims of the nuclear industry to testify in a global format. Advised on communications strategy, inclusion and cultural sensitivity. -Champlain Music Festival. Burlington, Vermont. 1990-1993. One of the largest folk music festivals in the US northeast: inclusion of Indigenous music and intercultural communication strategy.-Fira BlauVerd. Vilanova I la Geltrú. 2015. Analysis for the potential to transform a small local event into a regional engine for sustainable development. What's Next?
