Our goal is to bring the most extraordinary solutions to the market.As the Director of Category Management, my role involves overseeing the Product Management and Product Leadership teams in EMEA. Together, we chart the strategic course for the entire portfolio represented by all the brands in the region.In our pursuit of success, we address crucial areas such as Product Lifecycle Management, P&L responsibility, identifying new Business opportunities, forging strategic Partnerships, exploring M&A prospects, fostering a winning team, and refining our Go-To-Market approach. Leading the Product Management department and prepare for a bright future as part of Brunswick. We started the journey with a team of 4 people and gradually expanded this to 6 FTE. Step by step we worked towards;- Connecting Product Management with Engineering, Sales and Marketing- Build a winning "product management" team- Global alignment of product portfolio (8 brands) for regional needs- Create product introduction plans for newly introduced products within EMEA - Determine and execute strategic direction of the Mastervolt brand- Take ownership of product life cycle management- Execute next steps with BI/PIM toolkits

Over the course of five years, I had the privilege of spearheading all Research and Development (R&D) activities at Mastervolt, leading an exceptional team of over 20 engineers from diverse disciplines. Together, we accomplished a remarkable feat, crafting an impressive and diverse lineup of products. These groundbreaking offerings encompassed a wide range, including cutting-edge lithium batteries, advanced battery management systems, versatile Power converters like Combi’s, Inverters, Chargers, and DC-DC Converters. Furthermore, we developed MasterBus and CZone Interfaces, as well as the innovative Amperian online connectivity solution, all catering to various customer needs.Our success stemmed from expertise in various areas:- Team Management - Technical Leadership- Certifications and Compliance- Cross-Functional Collaboration- Strategy and Planning- Process Improvement- Risk Management- Performance Evaluation- Budget Management- Continuous Learning- Strategic SourcingIn conclusion, my role as the leader of Mastervolt's R&D activities was both a privilege and an exhilarating experience. Responsible for timelines, finances and overall progress for all R&D projects. With a core group of 20 dedicated engineers work towards maximizing the output from the R&D department to develop and sustain amazing products.During this period we went through a larger integration with our US sister brands to better collaborate but also move projects between different sites. One such example was a larger US-based charger project consisting of 3 sub-projects, Getting this to the finish line was a very interesting challenge.

Responsible for (and/or part of) several development projects for both commercial products and fully automated test-equipment. In this capacity I was working with multiple different teams (one for each project, as part of a Matrix organization) and frequently travelling to the far east for the successful setup of the product line in the far east.(Products) This ranges from the definition state of the project to getting the product actually produced at the designated production facility and managing/supporting all steps in between. (Testers) This ranges from the definition state to getting the tester built internally or outsourced to installing the tester in the production line. One of the key areas was to move away from locally stored test-results on site to a database (SQL) structure where all data is collected and can be properly accessed and backed-up.

Responsible for the operability and new development of fully automated production line testers (ATE) and accompanying software both in Europe and the far east. The focus on ATE development happened together with a larger project to move several production lines from the Netherlands to the far east. In this capacity travel to the far east and being on-site to support the transition and make sure products meet the required quality level was key. This includes (for the TVA part):- define POD for new testers- design hardware for new testers- design software for new testers- coordinate development of new testers (outsourcing)- define and execute maintenance plans- install new testers onsiteThis includes (as part of the project team to move production lines);- travel to FE to witness the implementation/build up of a new production line- create instructions around assembly, quality control, test protocols, inspection documentation- witness first production runs and make sure quality standards/first pass yield met the goals- run statistics on testdata collected from ATE for early warning indicationsAdditionally provide onsite support for logistics, sourcing, production and repair for the different products produced at the target location.

In the new capacity of Project leader/manager take the responsibility for the development of the first Mastervolt lithium battery and several other new products for the marine market. These projects ran from concept, prototyping, production validation and all the way to Mass Production.The best example was the development of the first MLI 24/160 battery for the Marine market. With a small team vs a challenging timeline (thanks John de Rijk ;)) figuring out how to bring all the elements together to bring a first generation new lithium ion battery into the Marine market. Amazing journey and amazing lessons learned.
