I focus my practice on the representation of debtors, creditors' committees, trustees, individual creditors, and others in high-stakes corporate restructurings and bankruptcy litigation. With two decades of experience, I have successfully helped clients resolve the legal turmoil surrounding corporate restructurings and liquidations.I represented American Apparel and its affiliates in their two recent chapter 11 cases. American Apparel operated a vertically integrated manufacturing, distribution, and retail business focused on branded fashion-basic apparel, employing thousands of employees across multiple manufacturing facilities and hundreds of retail stores in the United States and 17 other countries worldwide. American Apparel filed a prearranged bankruptcy case in October 2015. Its prearranged plan, which was a financial restructuring premised on implementation of a business turnaround plan, was confirmed in just over three months, in January 2016. Unfortunately, American Apparel's turnaround plan failed. American Apparel and many of its foreign subsidiaries again filed bankruptcy (or similar) proceedings in November 2016. I am lead counsel in the U.S. bankruptcy cases and am coordinating the disposition of American Apparel's foreign subsidiaries worldwide.I also have or have had significant representations in other recent high-profile cases, including Toys R Us, Achaogen, Adelphia Communications, Chemtura, Fleming Companies, All American Oil & Gas, CarbonLite, Quiznos, Rescap, Relativity Media, Golfsmith and Thornburg Mortgage.I have been individually recommended in The Legal 500 rankings for corporate restructuring. Law360 named me a rising star in 2016, and I was among the Global Restructuring Review's inaugural "Top 40 Under 40" restructuring lawyers. In 2021, I was recognized by Chambers as an up and coming lawyer in the area of bankruptcy and restructuring. I also have been named a super lawyer or rising star by Los Angeles magazine in each of the last 12 years. Finally, I serve on the diversity and inclusion committee for the American Bankruptcy Institute.
