I am an agentive professional focused on empowering students to advocate for themselves, and helping them navigate on-campus resources. My goal is for students leaving my office to know that they are fully capable of making decisions in their best interest and have the knowledge to do so. I am especially passionate about each individual student's lived experience, and focus on the lived experience in my advising practice. I graduated from Texas Tech University, earning a B.A. in University Studies with concentrations in Women's & Gender Studies, Political Science and Integrative Studies. Since then, I have had the privilege of working with a wide array of students. Often, I lean on my own experiences as a TTU alum when working with them.I began my career as a temporary advisor for the Texas Success Initiative Developmental Education Program (now known as College Readiness). I was very fortunate to be hired as the Lead Academic Advisor for the department once my temporary position ended. I always said that, "the cool thing about working in TSI was that you got to know a little bit about everything happening on campus," as I worked with students from all backgrounds and areas of study. In 2023, I was promoted to Program Manager, where I oversaw the TSI advising program, including direct supervision of TSI advisors, working with campus partners, and planning Red Raider Orientation. In this role, I routinely assessed TSI placement policies consistent with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recommendations and requirements, and collaborated with instructional staff to ensure positive outcomes for students enrolled in state-mandated developmental coursework. I evaluated students’ abilities, interests and characteristics using test scores and academic records to holistically place students into TSI coursework. I managed TSI student assistants to assist full time staff in the classroom and in the office. During my final year with TSI, I worked to pilot CHEM Camp, a program designed to target 100 first time in college students enrolled in CHEM 1307 for the Fall 2023 semester. Currently, I work as the Graduate Chief Academic Advisor for the Dept. of Computer Science in the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University. In this role, I advise approximately 700 graduate students on completion of computer science coursework and help students bridge the gap between their education and career goals. Additionally, I directly supervise 3 graduate assistants and enjoy guiding them through the nuance of employability.
