Greetings... I am a high-performing and dynamic educator and trainer, policy advisor, process shaper and institution builder - passionate about seeing (and contributing to) a more peaceful, just and sustainable world. With a 30-year track record across 25 countries affected by crisis, conflict and fragility, I have worked to advance inclusive and transformative political settlements and peace processes, governance systems, resilient social contracts, environmental and climate justice, and, empowered and engaged civil societies. With UN departments, agencies, funds and programs, and other international and civic organisations, I lead and participate in multi-actor and agency applied research, facilitate strategic processes, conduct trainings for diverse stakeholders, and advise senior policymakers. My policy work includes seven years as a senior civil society representative in the International Dialogue / 'New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States' process, where I collaborated closely with g7+ government and international organisation representatives, co-chairing a high-level technical working group and supporting the development of civil society policy platforms for policy engagement across g7+ countries. As an academic I've served in professorial positions on three continents, reaching 600+ students. Most recently, I served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Public Value at the College of Public Policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Doha, and I remain an Senior Affiliate of the Global Institute for Strategic Research (GISR), also at HBKU. I also maintain academic affiliations in South Africa and Kenya, and in 2002 I co-founded the Sage-published Journal of Peacebuilding and Development (JPD) with Mohammed Abu-Nimer, where I served as chief editor for 15 years, and continue to contribute to advisory and business oversight functions. As an active researcher, I'm working (and keen to collaborate) in the following areas:* Rising complexity in our conflict-crisis-contexts* Mediation, inclusive peace processes, sustaining peace (and emerging / non-traditional and non-Western state actors) * Social/political movements for change, and the rise of a more principled and just rules-based international order * Peace-development-humanitarian (HDP) nexus and climate, and efforts to bring about just energy transitions* The forging of resilient, inclusive, eco- social contractsTo learn more about my work, perspectives and publications, visit www.erinmccandless.net or follow me on twitter. @McCandlessErin
