I was that rare breed of kid who decided what they wanted to do at an early age - at 12, I declared I would go to law school and become a lawyer. In high school, a friend suggested I look into mediation, and becoming a mediator, and I loved the idea. So, when I was applying to law schools, the standard was more about which school had ht best dispute resolution program, than the status of the JD program. That probably should have been a hint, but I wasn't ready to admit that quite yet. So, while getting my law degree, I also earned a Masters in Dispute Resolution. The more conflict management classes I took, the more I loved it. At my first lawyer job, I learned a lot - 1. I am NOT a litigator, and 2. Lawyers are (generally) TERRIBLE managers! Why isn't management a class we are required to take in law school? And subsequent lawyer jobs just seemed to confirm this for me. I wondered - Why isn't there a business where people go in and teach managing lawyers how to manage, where they teach managers how to deal with conflict inside of the business, where they teach managers how to communicate expectations, and build processes and systems to make the business run more smoothly?! I could tell within a week or so of beginning a new job what change could be made to vastly improve communication, productivity and revenue. So, here we are. I work with individuals to coach them through negotiations and conflict, and work with small to mid size businesses to help managers and employees deal with conflict at work through training, coaching, and systems and processes development. And I LOVE what I do!
