I have a passion for plants and this passion has led me on a wonderful journey through many countries and many sectors. My career has spanned herbalism, non-profit management, international development, the natural product industry, and academia. From my beginnings as a clinical herbalist, I pursued graduate work in ethnobotany and then spent nearly twelve years working with indigenous communities in areas of natural resource management and conservation, including medicinal plant conservation and sustainability. Bridging together my two passions, I then moved into the natural product industry focusing on sustainability, herbal science and research, and responsible botanical sourcing. I am an active member in professional organizations, including as a Board Member for the American Herbal Product Association. Through it all I have continued to enjoy sharing the wonder of plants through extensive speaking, teaching, and writing endeavors. In total, this journey has encompassed the following experience: • Over thirty years of experience with medicinal plants, including clinical practice, ethnobotany, botanical supply chain, and international work in traditional medicine. • More than twenty years of management experience. • Ten years experience working with non-profits in international development, conservation, and natural resource management, including medicinal plant conservation and sustainability. • Twenty years of project management experience, including in international and culturally diverse situations. • More than fifteen years experience in science communication. • Extensive herbal and natural product industry experience, including regulatory and compliance. • National and international grant writing experience. • Extensive teaching experience, including to academic, scientific, and general public audiences. • Extensive writing experience, including creative, technical, and popular. • Extensive international travel and public speaking experience. • Experience with intergovernmental organizations.
