I am currently a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Resident at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Martinsburg, WV. As a residents I have the opportunity to provide care to Veterans in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Outpatient experiences include involvement in patient aligned care teams (PACT), pharmacotherapy clinic, and anticoagulation clinic. Inpatient activities include rounding with physicians, completing pharmacokinetics, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings on the acute care, intensive care, psychiatric care and long term care units. Management and leadership training is received throughout the residency in the form of longitudinal responsibilities, as well as, participation in a variety of committees such as PT&N and Patient Safety. I also gain staffing experience every third weekend by staffing in the inpatient pharmacy. The VAMC is directly affiliated with Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA; therefore, I have the opportunity to participate in journal clubs, residency forums and a Teaching Certificate Program.
