I am a 6th grade English Language Arts teacher at Hillsboro Middle School in Hillsboro, Ohio. I incorporate a variety of strategies to differentiate for all learners. I am excited to be part of select Ohio middle schools who are adopting the Fountas and Pinnell Classroom (FPC). I have also worked to integrate learning strategies from The Writing Revolution (TWR) into my writing curriculum.In my classroom, I focus on helping students build a foundation of skills to prepare them for a future inside and outside the classroom. We focus on resiliency, adapting to change, and accessing coping strategies (SEL skills) when facing difficulty. The pandemic has fundamentally changed the world of education and our students need guidance to heal from the unexpected changes they are constantly facing today. I am here to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, and a supporting environment for learning. I am here to educate. I am honored to join my school's Building and District Leadership Teams (BLT/DLT) as a representative for the 6th grade. This position will help me serve as an advocate for my colleagues and students.

As a lifeguard at BGSU's Student Recreation Center, I worked with staff to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the aquatic facility. I guarded both an Olympic size pool and a smaller recreation pool catering to a wide range of diverse swimmers including swim teams, summer camps, aquatic exercise classes, water Zumba classes, and more. BGSU's Rec Center also hosted large championship meets for the surrounding swim leagues in the area.

As a certified lifeguard, I worked to ensure the safety of patrons as they enjoyed their time at the public pool. My job was to monitor activity in the water and enforce pool rules. I also maintained the pool and surrounding areas. All lifeguard, first aid, AED, and CPR skills were practiced bi-weekly at in-services where I trained for emergency scenarios specific to the pool. Aquatics International awarded Willoughby Parks & Recreation the Best of Aquatics Award in 2016 for innovation in safety.
