As part of the Puget Sound Sampling Unit, I oversaw the management of recreational and commercial fishing data from all of Puget Sound. I manage large data sets, identify, communicate and resolve data issues, and delegate tasks to my two-member staff.I also worked with Tribal biologists to train sampling technicians and collect Tribal harvest data.

I worked as part of a small team to determine the presence of spawning activity of forage fish on Washington’s outer coast, in support of state Marine Spatial Planning. Navigating on-foot and in-vehicle through Washington’s unique coastal habitats, I spent long hours working around the tides and in the lab collecting and processing sediment cores using a dissecting microscope. Findings synthesized in an agency report (see below)

As part of the Ocean Sampling Program, I performed creel surveys on private and charter fishing boats returning from the ocean or Columbia River. Through this opportunity, I have become proficient in identifying and handling salmon, groundfish and rockfish species, as well as taking biological data on these fish.

Lectured Introduction to Physical Geography for 80 students (freshmen – seniors). Prepared all lecture, laboratory and exam materials and held office hours for student aid.

Collected and identified marine invertebrates both in the field and in a laboratory setting. I used taxonomic keys, field guides and dissecting microscopes to identify samples and record data on benthic communities of Puget Sound beaches. I moved on to create a database describing the distribution of species for the sampled communities and moved on to helping others perform sediment composition analyses and literature reviews on benthic sampling.

In collaboration with Environmental Science Associates, and as part of a small team, I updated the 1975 Kittitas County Shoreline Master Plan (SMP) through both GIS analysis and literature reviews. Data collected was synthesized to write sections of the "Ecological Characterization" chapter of SMP

As part of CWU’s WATERS (Watershed Activities to Enhance Research in Schools) grant program I incorporated watershed education into classrooms through inquiry-based lessons and field trips. My major accomplishment in this role was developing a field day known as BioBlitz, where students learned to observe and record data in a controlled research environment. I organized over 270 students, 20 teachers and 30 volunteers, created student, teacher and volunteer instructional manuals, field guides and data sheets and kept students, teachers and volunteers on time by scheduling the day’s activities.

As a member of University of Delaware WATER (Watershed Action Team for Ecological Restoration) group, I conducted GIS analyses coupled with creating a Microsoft Excel database to calculate total pollutant loads in the Cool Run watershed, as well as potential stormwater mitigation benefits using the Simple Method. In conjunction with DWRA staff, I developed a watershed plan, including recommendations to the University of Delaware on stormwater mitigation and presented these findings at a University Research Symposium
