At Duke Raleigh Hospital I led the development of the hospital’s communications strategy. My work included:• Determine communication objectives in accordance with our hospital and health system-wide strategic goals and policies. Assess analytics to make data-drive decisions about our path forward. • Provide counsel to top hospital leadership on effective communication tactics to meet our goals and best represent our brand. • Engage in internal and external brand development of the organization, including our website updates, printed collateral, and our social media presence. • Lead crisis management and preemptive planning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. • Oversee the work of graphic designers, videographers and photographers. Provide coaching and guidance to maintain project scope and proper alignment with the Duke tone and aesthetic. • Manage internal messaging for the team to include ghost writing for our leadership and achieving an attention to detail that allows me to match the voice, tone and style for each leader. • Work with a team to execute large-scale internal and external events, including All Staff for 2,000+ team members, quarterly team member Town Hall events, and the Friends of Duke Raleigh Hospital Winter Celebration • Locate and tell the stories that not only reconnect our team with why they began a career in healthcare at Duke, but effectively share the organization’s mission, innovations, and accomplishments with external audiences.

• Responsible for overseeing communication and social media strategy.• Project manager for the design and the experience for four websites and the redesign of two existing sites with outside vendors. Led photoshoots and content creation and planning for those sites. • Directed the content and scheduling of our flagship channels—NicholasInstitute.duke.edu, EnergyAccess.duke.edu and others. Determined the editorial content, design and publication of content across these channels. Project manager for the redesign and content management transition of our corporate sustainability center site (2012), our main website (2013, 2018), and an online guidebook (2014).• Led the development of the Nicholas Institute’s academic publication series template designs in accordance with the Duke brand. • Oversight of communications budget and departmental growth. Department more than tripled with a full-time staff of two (editor and website administrator), regular student interns, as well as agreements with contractors for print, design, web and promotional items. • Supervised and managed all relevant media relations and media buying. • Aided in event planning, promotion, and development of content (presentations and event materials) for organization and community events. • Planned and coordinated posts using our team’s social media editorial calendar. This included writing, scheduling, creating graphics for posts and engaging with our followers and tracking trends. Coordinated with our academic paper authors to help us tell our story on social media to extend our reach. • Ghost wrote weekly climate and energy column for Nicholas Institute director and secured cross posting agreements for the column with Huffington Post and National Geographic NewsWatch for five years, through July 2018.

• Primary charge as editor was to oversee the planning and production of the Cullen College of Engineering’s research magazine, Parameters, and the alumni magazine, The Cougar Engineer. • Organized photo shoots and attended to provide art direction for magazines. • Wrote copy for the magazines, website, press releases, and other marketing materials. Planned, prepared copy, and built electronic newsletter in Dreamweaver for monthly distribution. • Assisted the university’s main communication office with media relations related to our faculty. • Helped with production and planning of the college’s annual report. • Launched social media sites—Twitter and Facebook—and provided daily updates for those sites.
