Plants Of Concern Research Assistant
CurrentI am currently serving as the Plants of Concern Research Assistant for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (FPCC). Founded in 2001, Plants of Concern engages community scientists to monitor the rarest native plants in the Midwest, including wildflowers, grasses, trees, and ferns — species that are in danger of disappearing from the landscape forever. Volunteers visit hundreds of natural areas each year to assess the health of rare plant populations.I support ~70 volunteers who monitor nearly 100 species throughout the 70,000 acres managed by the FPCC. I coordinate with FPCC Regional Ecologists to identify priority species for each of the five regions. I assist volunteers with plant monitoring, organize group monitoring events, assess subpopulation on my own when needed, and support data entry and analysis.
