I’m the editor-in-chief of Outlier Media in Detroit. Outlier is a service journalism organization that focuses on empowering Detroiters to hold landlords and local government elected officials accountable. More here: www.outliermedia.org. Before joining Outlier as managing editor in 2021, I spent about 10 years as a freelance writer and editor of fiction and non-fiction works.I also hold a Ph.D. in Communication from Wayne State University, master's degree in teaching from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and a bachelor's degree in print journalism from Hampton University. I have used my experience to design and lead communication courses that yield high-scoring evaluations. I've taught courses in public speaking; journalistic grammar and style; news reporting and news editing. As a media scholar, I study the effects of new media and television on the journalism profession, using a framework that focuses on journalism administration, journalism audience and future journalists.
