Physiotherapist Student
CurrentThrough my physiotherapy course, I have completed 7 placements; gaining over 800 hours of clinical experience.Five placements within NHS Grampian; Outpatients, geriatric medicine, community rehabilitation, and paediatrics. I have also completed an elective placement at Southampton University Hospital working within the surgical high dependency unit. Further to this I have had experience working at a BMI private hospital within the Outpatients department for my sixth clinical placement. My next final placement was at Monklands hospital working within the stroke unit, where I assessed acute strokes and carried out tailored rehabilitation programmes; including gait, functional tasks and hand rehab.Through these I have developed my communication skills with a wide variety of patients, have had to manage my own caseload of patients on very busy wards and thus have had the chance to develop my time keeping skills, leadership assets and job prioritisation. I have also had the chance to work on my confidence in dealing with the members of the public and I am now accustomed to gauging the level of conversation someone wants. On my placements I showed a high level of enthusiasm, dedication and bubbliness which enabled me to build rapport, trust and ultimately see results in some difficult patients. These are all transferable skills that I can utilize when it comes to a work environment.
Research Internship
I was lucky enough to be selected by two lecturers to work as a research assistant over the summer of 2017. Through this I gained valuable experience in the creation of a systematic review, working to gather data and write this in a succinct manner. I learnt to work to tight time schedules and organise my own time well to ensure all tasks were completed and to a high standard.
