FounderUpkeeping, Llc 2021 - PresentSeattle, Washington, United StatesOne day I woke up and decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Well, not really. It kind of just happened by chance, and I'm thankful for that. Before this, I had picked up bits and pieces of mostly-beautiful experiences at CPA firms around the country while being a military spouse. I moved to Japan and worked on my Masters. I helped non-profits and created accounting courses for major universities and publishers. But my heart was always with the small business owners. I brought it back full circle to focus on bookkeeping and helping them truly understand their business. And in 2021, after a few years of dabbling as a hobby with a few clients, I made the leap to founder. Now I get to do this for fun and for life. And I get to advocate for our industry and help others see that you can live the accountant's dream, too. -

Project Manager Accounting/FinanceFreedom Learning Group Nov 2019 - Apr 2021I was able to step into Stacey and Nathan's early vision to fill the gap between educated, ready, and geographically dislocated military spouses and universities and publishers who needed help updating curriculum and creating engaging/cutting-edge courses. As a SME I ran mental marathons developing accounting test banks and developing upper-grad level Forensic Accounting courses from scratch (which was AWESOME). As a project manager I got to place some of the brightest and talented individuals on course projects and create the vision to modernize several college courses. This is where I learned my love for teaching accounting and making it relevant and understandable. -

Staff AccountantJohn E. Mcgovern & Associates, Pc Dec 2017 - Dec 2018You ever just walk into a CPA firm in your new neighborhood and go, "I'm here! When can I start?" That's kind of how this went down, by the grace and good spirits of the CPA Philly team. CPA Philly taught me that you could work during tax season and have fun (pizza parties, Philly football, team dinners at the brewery). This is where I learned a lot about work/life balance and that compassionate people existed who supported me if I needed to run home and take care of my toddlers and then come back to work at 8pm during tax season. This is where I made mistakes and received grace. This is where I learned how to correspond with the IRS and advocate for clients. This is where I found my love of bookkeeping and building continual relationships with clients. -
Accountant/BookkeeperBrown, Bench, Wright & Mcleod, Pc Jul 2013 - Jun 2014This was the job that taught me working for a CPA firm could be fun. It could be working with a family on a mission to serve clients really well. It taught me to build relationships so my favorite clients would buy us pizza on Fridays (I'm food motivated). This was the job that taught me what it was like to modernize a firm. I helped make the switch from paper-everything to scan & save. Little did we know what cloud could do at this time. But it was a big leap, nonetheless. This was the job where a farmer brought me multiple years worth of paper check stubs and registers and I hand entered each one into QuickBooks. The one where I migrated a bunch of client accounting records from an old legacy system into QuickBooks. This was my first real rodeo with QuickBooks. This was the one where everything changed for me.
