My goal in this role was to accelerate the shift towards sustainable diets in the urban context globally by developing WWF's international working group on urban food systems. I worked to create and communicate policy tools, learning cases, and behavior change guides for local governments.

Over nine months, I conducted action research with WWF, connecting and advancing work in the climate-urban-food nexus. I explored the role cities can play in transforming their urban food systems and how national and international institutions can empower their work to be tools for climate and social action.

As a sustainability specialist with Keep Truckee Green, Truckee's Solid Waste and Recycling Department, I worked to engage the Truckee community on issues relating to waste reduction and climate change. This work included helping develop Truckee's climate action plan to reduce the Town's greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2040. This work included helping develop Truckee's climate action plan to reduce the Town's greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2040. I have connected with over 500 residents through outreach and engagement, researched science-based solutions, and helped develop land use, energy, transportation, and waste policies from the community level up. While planning for 2040, I have collaborated with over 20 community partners to help develop Truckee's Adaptation and Vulnerability Plan, tracked and improved internal sustainability processes, engaged residents on waste-reduction practices and co-created single-use item reduction strategies with community members. My team was chosen as 1 of 4 student social ventures in the nation to receive funding and mentorship to develop mobile app "Extra Eats" to reduce campus food waste and food insecurity. Extra Eats presented work at the Sustainable Brands Conference in Detroit, Michigan and discussed the power of mentorship in student social entrepreneurship with Sambazon.

Bridging the Center for Sustainability and Parking and Transportation Services, I worked to help Santa Clara University meet their goal of carbon neutrality by 2029 by reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles commuting to campus. During my fellowship I worked with Farmerline and MoringaConnect both based in Ghana.The Enterprises: MoringaConnect improves the lives of smallholder farmers through the moringa tree. During my fellowship I worked with Farmerline and MoringaConnect both based in Ghana.The Enterprises: MoringaConnect improves the lives of smallholder farmers through the moringa tree. Farmerline transforms farmers into successful entrepreneurs by increasing their access to information, inputs, and resources to increase their productivity.The Challenge: Both enterprises seek to recruit, train, and compensate field agents more effectively in order to scale.Method: Traveled to 6 regions of Ghana and interviewed 42 field agents, 69 farmers, and 13 partner organizations. We further gathered best practices from other agricultural organizations engaging large networks of field agents.Results: We found that agent recruitment should align with scaling strategy, standardized training can increase productivity, and aligning personal and community incentives holds promise. Impact: Created business model innovation reports for both enterprises, and published best practices for last mile distribution. Recommendations were used by enterprises to re-model agent recruitment, training workshops, and provide new incentives. Show less
