I am an editor and writer who uses these skills for mission-driven organizations as well as for private clients, for whom I specialize in manuscript preparation and developmental editing. I have experience in SEO content creation, social media marketing, and video production, skills I have used in the past as a media expert for foundations and individuals.I came to this work from academia, where I earned my PhD in English literature, specializing in the history of gender and sexuality. I have spent many years working as an educator, scholar, writer, and editor in pedagogical contexts, most recently as a Visiting Assistant Professor of English Literature at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. I am passionate about local history, community sustainability, wild foods, economic and educational justice, gender and racial equity, and disability rights. My varied employment history reflects my commitment to these values, from the many years I've spent as an educator in traditional, non-traditional, and activist educational spaces, to the volunteering I've done at historical and cultural sites, to my work serving disability justice organizations in New York City. I am also the author of numerous peer-reviewed scholarly articles, a number of essays which have appeared in popular venues, and the co-editor of a forthcoming book, for SUNY Press, on humanist approaches to rape prevention. In my free time, I write fiction and literary non-fiction.

Postdoctoral FellowAmerican Council Of Learned Societies (Acls) Sep 2021 - May 2022I won a national competition for funding to support the writing of my book manuscript. My book is entitled *Awful Nearness: A Cultural History of Rape, 1740-1900.* It studies the intersection of two preoccupations of the early English novel: rape and otherness. Its central claim is that between 1740 and 1900, rape was a representational site for novelists concerned with exploring the essential isolation of human minds and the various ways such minds try and fail to connect to one another. This literary tradition simultaneously tracks the progress of British women’s evolving status as political subjects, from the eighteenth century, when women were largely seen as political “others” within their own country, to the turn of the twentieth century, when their political subjectivity was increasingly recognized. The project thus tells a forgotten, even suppressed, history of both the English novel and the formation of the liberal subject. -
