Currently, I am working as a Technologist in applied research and part of a team that utilizes unmanned systems mounted with various sensors (ex. GPR, Echo-Sounder, MicaSense) to better understand and model the natural environments we capture. Combining my background in geology and hydrogeology with my new skill sets in GIS and UAV operations, the research areas I am focused on include:• Geothermal exploration utilizing satellite imagery, GPR, multispectral and hyperspectral sensors• Bathymetry mapping with GPR and Echo-Sounder for improved hydrodynamic modeling • Water quality and vegetation health monitoring with a multispectral sensorOther GIS projects I am currently involved with include:• Maintaining a mobile GIS solution, I developed for Fernie Trails Alliance (FTA), for collecting assets and trails, along with inspection and maintenance records that are required for trail management. My workflow utilizes ArcGIS Field Maps with Smart forms • Maintaining a web mapping application utilized by FTA for planning and monitoring maintenance activities• Developing a custom tool for reporting on maintenance and inspection activities for each trail and technical trail feature under FTA responsibilityI’m excited to be able to continue my work in a field that constantly challenges my knowledge and capabilities and to be part of an amazing team with diverse backgrounds. The power of a GIS has allowed me to view datasets in a way I never knew was possible! With new applications constantly being developed and tested, it seems the skies the limit with UAV’s and GIS technology.
