About Erin Zerbe

I’m a dedicated artist and educator on a mission to make studio arts education accessible to all students. With a focus on art foundation, digital and visual literacy, and emerging technologies, I am passionate about empowering college students to tap into their unique voices and perspectives through visual expression and creativity. I believe self-expression is a vital skill for all people, and my driving passion is to make that process approachable and fulfilling to all students, especially those from under-served and under-represented communities. As an award winning educator and professional artist, my greatest strength is my approach to the classroom. My teaching philosophy reflects my interest in an art education grounded in theory, praxis, and student empowerment. No matter what level the course, I favor an approach to instruction which incorporates concepts, requires multiple iterations, and prioritizes active student engagement in the learning process. Students are the crucial focus of the learning community; and I want them deeply engaged in the learning process because the skills they are developing in my courses are transferable and relevant far beyond the boundaries of my classroom, or even the discipline of art. My studio and teaching expertise are varied and include:-The Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, XD, Lightroom-Graphic Design including: foundations, information design, interaction design, communication design, logo and branding, web design, motion graphics-Traditional 2D animation, experimental animation, stop motion animation, and tradigital animation using software like Dragon Stop Motion, Toon Boom, Stop Motion Studio-4D time-based media such as video and narrative filmmaking, video art, performance art, and installation-Illustration including: digital illustration, traditional illustration, sequential imaging, storyboarding, comics and graphic novels, children’s books, editorial illustration, wacom tablets-Digital photography, image manipulation, image retouching, studio photography, studio lighting and equipment, DSLR cameras, EPSON large format printers-Makerspace and 3D experience including: Glowforge, 3D printers, book binding, power tools, wood working, resin, ceramics, fibers, metals-Additional program experiences include: LMS (Moodle, Canvas) Figma, Blender, ZBrush, Unity, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Express, Adobe Dimension, Zoom, Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace
