I’m a dedicated artist and educator on a mission to make studio arts education accessible to all students. With a focus on art foundation, digital and visual literacy, and emerging technologies, I am passionate about empowering college students to tap into their unique voices and perspectives through visual expression and creativity. I believe self-expression is a vital skill for all people, and my driving passion is to make that process approachable and fulfilling to all students, especially those from under-served and under-represented communities. As an award winning educator and professional artist, my greatest strength is my approach to the classroom. My teaching philosophy reflects my interest in an art education grounded in theory, praxis, and student empowerment. No matter what level the course, I favor an approach to instruction which incorporates concepts, requires multiple iterations, and prioritizes active student engagement in the learning process. Students are the crucial focus of the learning community; and I want them deeply engaged in the learning process because the skills they are developing in my courses are transferable and relevant far beyond the boundaries of my classroom, or even the discipline of art.
