Responsible for assisting health care professionals with routine medical procedures. Typically reports to a Nurse, Physician, or other higher level medical/nursing position in a medical clinic, student health services, or other medical setting, such as a mobile outreach unit. Support a variety of areas or be assigned primarily to one specialty area, such as Neurology or Gynecology. This non-exempt position works under direct supervision when assisting with medical processes. I routinely use a variety of medical equipment, such as sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, needles/syringes, thermometers, EKG machines, AED, Hemoques. I also use the unit’s scheduling and charting systems, and procedures for obtaining patient lab results. To fulfill job duties, must possess good written and verbal communication skills.Duties:• Assists in patient screening procedures; checks in patients; obtains patient histories; prepares charts.• Takes vital signs, weights, and measurements.• Provides assistance to physician or nurse practitioner with exam and minorsurgeries, including colposcopy, biopsy, cryosurgery, and IUD insertion.• Calls in medications to pharmacy and administers medication as ordered byphysician or nurse practitioner.• Receives related telephone calls and triages appropriately, including managingpatient messages per protocol or provider instructions.• Obtains specimens and records in log; reviews and documents laboratory results;refers abnormal laboratory results to provider; schedules follow up visits.• Ensures office is stocked with supplies and equipment; arranges instruments for autoclave. May autoclave subdermals and clean electrodes; troubleshootsequipment.
