Mr. Conner has represented individuals in some of the most difficult and high-profile cases in North Carolina. He successfully defended: Death row inmate, Levon Junior “Bo” Jones. After Mr. Jones’ attorneys secured a new trial, Mr. Conner, led a team of attorneys who obtained a dismissal of the charges, and Mr. Jones was freed after more than 14 years on death row. He successfully defended: Reade Seligmann - - one of the wrongfully charged lacrosse players in the “Duke Lacrosse Rape Case;” And Leslie Lincoln, who was accused of murdering her mother. In defending Ms. Lincoln, Mr. Conner exposed fraudulent SBI Laboratory errors in DNA analysis; And Dwayne Brimage, who was accused of shooting a man seven times;And a doctor accused of sexually assaulting patients, by securing “not-guilty” verdicts;And a man accused of first degree rape and related sex offenses, by securing not guilty verdicts. He obtained "Life" verdicts: for a man who committed burglary, rape and murder; & for a man who killed 3 people; and for several persons who were given re-sentencing hearings by the Courts. He has handled cases throughout NC. He has appeared before the N.C. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for Eastern District of N.C, the U.S. District Court for Middle District of NC, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He lectures extensively throughout North Carolina and other states to attorney organizations and law schools. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated with honors from ECU in 1984, and then UNC at Chapel Hill Law School in 1987. He views the law as a profession designed to help speak for those who may not be able to help themselves, or have come up against the tremendous power of government. He is a past-Chair of the NC Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section, and the Fair Trial Initiative. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, and is on the Board of Governors for N.C. Advocates for Justice.
