At the early stage, it was mainly assisting compliance manager to do operational tasks, for instance, checking with relationship managers on whether our clients are in UN sanction list, collecting the most updated account info for accounts that trigger FATCA requirements as well as tracking unusual large fund movements in accounts. After two months, i joined the newly formed Client Management Team (CMT) to take up more roles such as co-ordinating all the account issues within the department as well as handling the GRID project which is under Global Standard of HSBC. For account issues, my responsibility was chiefly acting as a bridge between relationship managers and client managers. Helping relationship managers to follow up their cases. For GRID project, i was working with other interns to deal with more than two thousand cases with a tight deadline. It was mainly about check the existing GRID numbers as well as applying for new GRID numbers for other customers. Two other departments, namely the bank's back offices in Hong Kong and Guangzhou and the GRID management departments in Malaysia and India, were involved in the whole process, therefore it was not very smooth at first due to insufficient communication though it became smoother at the later stage. The biggest lesson learnt was about the importance of communication across departments. At checking stage, i was handling the GRID alone and it was alright. But for the applications of new GRID, other departments were shocked by the massive amount of requests that we made, without prior notice, which brought them some troubles. Though after understanding our urgent need, they fully worked with us which facilitate the whole process a lot.
