I seek out & listen to people who are pushing culture forward today to spark products & experiences that will captivate athletes* tomorrow.* = As we say at Nike, if you have a body, you're an athlete
Beaverton, Or, Us
Responsible for defining a runner-centered innovation agenda for Nike's Global Running Footwear category, working with amazing multi-disciplinary teams to bring that agenda to life, and evangelizing that vision both inside and outside of the company.

On returning to Nike in 2013, I spent a little over a year-and-a-half as something called the North Star Innovation Director for Natural Motion, a product concept that includes the enormously popular Nike Free and Nike Flex franchises. As North Star lead, I was responsible for defining an athlete-centered research & development agenda in the Natural Motion space that drove “game-changing” new concepts and technologies across all footwear categories. To this end, I worked with diverse teams across our design, engineering, sport research, brand marketing and PR groups to develop a shared vision, and to manifest that vision in the form of compelling products and platforms. In late 2014 I moved into a new role in Advanced Innovation, where I worked with multidisciplinary teams across footwear, apparel, consumer electronics and software to push the boundaries of technology and human potential.
Led a fantastic young team of planners and social strategists while learning new things about this remarkable region on a daily basis. The bulk of my time was spent on digital, mobile and social strategy development for a diverse range of clients spanning business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries across Asia Pacific (wow, that's a mouthful).Key clients included Maxis Communications, Malaysia's leading telecoms provider; the Singapore Tourism Board; Hewlett-Packard; and NTUC FairPrice, Singapore's leading grocery brand. My focus was on planning that drove measurable, real world results for all of our clients by creating value for their customers. Call me old fashioned, but I believe in work that works.

Helped our amazing clients create and nurture provocative relationships with their customers. I supported this through expertise in user experience design, social media platforms, mobile platforms, mobile payments, location-based platforms and other emerging technologies. The clients I focused on included Coca-Cola North America and Diet Coke North America, and key projects included leading digital strategy for the Cannes Gold Lion (Direct—FMCG, 2012) winning Coke "Polar Bowl" campaign.

Managed and played a central role in the creation of an entirely new silo of footwear known internally as the "Active" collection. Grew this collection from effectively zero to over $124M in revenue (wholesale) in the span of two years. Led the creation of the multi-award winning Nike LunarGlide+, Nike LunarEclipse+, Nike LunarFly+ and Nike Free Run+ franchises. Also co-invented the patent pending Dynamic Support midsole architecture.See product presentation videos created for distribution to global media:Nike LunarEclipse+ introduction at http://bit.ly/pgx9t0 (starts at 3 min, 9 sec)Women's Nike LunarGlide+ introduction at http://bit.ly/rmX28SMen's Nike LunarGlide+ introduction at http://bit.ly/rs1qiT
Under the pen name “Professor K,” I led the creation of all performance-related editorial content for this boutique magazine focused on sneaker culture. This included in-depth performance reviews of basketball and running shoes, as well as feature articles on the latest manufacturing and design advances in the athletic footwear industry. In addition to complete editorial oversight of this content, I was responsible for all associated creative—layout and photography—as well as the design and management of the SoleCollector.com Web site.
Founded Kicksology.net, the world's leading resource for performance-based reviews of basketball footwear. Kicksology.net was, at its peak, more highly trafficked than either Rbk.com or Nikebasketball.com, and evolved into a widely recognized brand within the hoops community, with extensions into apparel and accessories. Responsibilities included all aspects of brand creation and development, content creation, site design and development, and business planning.
Us
Co-founded this Chicago-based start-up along with Jason Fried and Carlos Segura. Our mission at the outset was to create highly usable Web experiences. As a start-up, responsibilities ran the gamut from business development to strategic planning (for our clients and our company) to design to refilling the water cooler, and everything in between.See my 37bettermotors prototype for an example of my work from this period. And bear in mind that this was created in early-2005—long before the proliferation of smartphones or modern in-car computing platforms: http://37signals.com/better/motors/index
