Operations Manager

Long Beach, California

I managed the entire Revenue Billing Cycle, Credentialing, ESRD, Marketing, Quality Reporting, and Benchmarking. When I first joined the practice in 2012, I was asked to transition their entire billing system from an outsource company to in-house billing. The practice used Epic which is one of the best systems for AEMR (Ambulatory EMR). The billing system was integrated in the EMR, but we choose to add the billing system at a later time because of the transition from the outsource company. I worked closely with Epic Builders to integrate a billing system best suited for nephrology including a workflow for the claim edits and AR. I successfully implemented the entire revenue cycle with little to no loss in revenue during the entire process. I successfully reduced the AR by 25% and our denial rates have significantly dropped.Today they have 3 billers and coders that successfully implement the billing for the entire group with consistency in all aspects of the revenue cycle. I also created protocols and manual based on Epic and the groups revenue cycle workflow which is now used as guide to train new billers or coders. My focus was being a catalyst to grow the company in areas such as ESRD, Credentialing, Marketing, and Data analysis. I provided operational support in many of the functions of nephrology care including coordinating with all dialysis and hospitals with regards to continuity of care for all our patients.

Billing And Collections Manager

Long Beach, California

I was called to manage this growing practice which had just began it's practice in 2007. I had no knowledge of Oncology or Hematology, and I knew it was going to be a challenging position. The practice doubled in size within 6 months after I began, and I knew that I had to create a billing platform that would be manageable and measurable. Within one year of managing the billing, I reduced the AR by 20%, without any additional coders or billers. I eventually took 2 hours each day after work to learn coding for oncology, chemotherapy, and hematology. As the practice grew I developed the entire Revenue Billing Cycle workflow and hired and trained 25 employees in the billing department, each with specific roles. Because of the tremendous and rapid growth, the unique strategy I took was to develop the billing department like a hospital where several departments were created to form the entire billing unit. I created inter-departments such as eligibility, coding/charge entry, payment posting, and collections. We even developed a department primarily dedicated to assisting patients with their copays and coinsurance through non profit organizations that provided assistance for cancer patients who met eligibility requirements. The most rewarding aspect of this was that the implementation was successful each department worked together as one unit even though each of them had different roles. This is a Billing Revenue Cycle Model for mid to large size Oncology practices. Today The Oncology Institute stands as leader in Oncology & Hematology Practice in Southern California.Their dedication to helping patients and their families with cancer and other blood diseases has been tremendous.

Pfs Patient Accounts

Orange County, California Area

PFS Business Office in charge of Blue Shield Accounts, follow up, denials, resubmissions of claims, and appeals. Although this was a short endeavor, I realized how important it was for me to start over after getting married and having our first child. At CHOC I worked with a fantastic group of individuals in the Patient Financial Services and learned so much about children and the diseases that plague them, especially cancer. This was one of the Best Organizations with one of the biggest hearts in the healthcare industry.I eventually wanted to get back into management, and thus my short lived endeavor led me to take a new position elsewhere.

Oct 2007 - Aug 2008

Project Supervisor

Long Beach

I first began as a patient account representative working on aging Blue Shied facility based accounts. I started to read on all the laws in regards to collections and how to appeal using the right techniques and tools to get the receivables paid no matter how aged the account. After 8 months I was promoted to Project Supervisor because of my relentless efforts in doubling my workflow and understanding what needed to get the job done. I took several training classes offered by the company and soon developed my own leadership style and began training others on how to properly collect using telephone techniques, written appeals, and teamwork.I was soon called to trained over 200 employees from Texas and California to understand how to use the system and the ability to collect on aging accounts that were 2 years old and more. This was the start of my leadership role and understanding what it means to work as a team. I am grateful to have worked for such a great company during its inception. Today Navigant Cymetrix is a leader in the industry and continues to grow and leave its footprint as one of the top healthcare companies that offers so much more than just outsourcing.

Brotherhood, you are never alone, and you never leave your brother behind. It also taught me respect, teamwork, dedication, and a love for our nation. Claims Examiner

Los Angeles, California

The Company was Initially Prudential Healthcare:I started as customer service representative handling calls for different employer groups. I was then transitioned to work exclusively for Charles Schwab Executive Patient Claim Accounts. I handled calls coming in from executives, including Mrs. Schwab, and executives like Brian Minkus, and although we were timed for our calls, I always exceeded the allotted time because I wanted to focus on resolving their problems and making sure they were satisfied with the results of their unpaid claims. I received several thank you notes from senior executives.I was eventually moved to eligibility when Aetna took over Prudential Healthcare and the transition was difficult but I gained much experience with enrollment. I was transferred a third time to hospital overpayments department, where I collected monies overpaid to hospitals and outpatient units. This was my first start into the collections medical field which really taught me about hospital billing, stop loss, and how difficult it was for health plans to recover overpayments made to hospitals. I was extremely interested in this position and made numerous successful efforts in recovering large amounts of overpayments. I feel this was truly the start of my healthcare career.
