AliceGraduation Project Feb 2009 - Aug 2009HilversumThe goal of this project was to blur the border between the digital world and the real world. By using augmented reality (projecting a digital world onto the "real" world) we told the story of Alice. The user was challenged to perform an autopsy on the body of the young woman.By performing the autopsy, we forced the user to become aware of the limits of what they were comfortable doing with regard to cutting into the body. How far were they willing to go to reconstruct the different aspects of the life of Alice in order to answer the ultimate question: What has ultimately led to her death?By applying various techniques, including the use of a Wii-mote with an infra-red pen and Flash-software, I was able to create an interactive body that responded to the different actions of the user.Techniques and programs: Flash AS3, Photoshop, Wii-mote.

Freedom World Wide (Project)4&5 May Commite / Xchange Sep 2008 - Jan 2009HilversumEvery year we celebrate our freedom on the 5th of May, but what does our freedom actually mean to us? And what does it mean to the rest of the world, with all the wars that are still going on? With these questions, in collaboration with the 4&5 May Commite and HKU Xchange, we set out to create four short films and an interactive website on what it is to be part of a resistance movement. The audience was forced to ask themselves: What freedoms do we have here in the Netherlands relative to the rest of the world and how free are we nowadays?The website was a combination of short interactive movies in Flash that showed an interactive story about a young woman who is part of the resistance. The user's role was to help her fight the injustice in the story. I was involved in the development of the website because of my knowledge in Flash ActionScript and web design.Programs: HTML, CSS, Flash AS3, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro.

Interactive Tax Experience (Project)Belastingdienst / Xchange Feb 2008 - Jun 2008HilversumA gigantic unwieldy ICT system was totally renewed by the Belastingdienst (tax authorities). To introduce this new system to its employees in a fun way, the Belastingdienst teamed up with HKU Xchange to conceive a project. This project consisted of making ten short films and one interactive room where employees could experience what it is like to work with a failing system, and especially how they could improve this system by working together. The interactive installation covered an entire office space, which for this purpose had been converted into an underground installation that was falling apart. The employees were motivated through instructions, given by fictional characters in the story, to collectively restore the "installation".My part in this project was to programmatically link the various Arduino techniques with the informative movies to lead the user through the story.Techniques and programs: Flash AS3, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Arduino's.
