Teaching multi-media journalism to MA International Journalism students.

I teach camera and edit skills to the students, to give them the ability to integrate AV media and web technology.The aim is to provide students with an awareness of how technologies shape the way we communicate, and practical expertise in the use of specific technologies. The result will be for them to design a fully working mobile app for iOS and Android operating systems, that will reflect a location/event within London.

Training the next generation of film makers

Support/coach TV production staff to use HD cameras, lighting and sound equipment.Assess new equipment for ‘Self-Op’ reporters and producers. I also run regular camera skills sessions for BBC staff.

Trained BBC staff to use Social Media such as Facebook and Twitter to generate original journalism. Supported and coached staff internationally using Video Journalism to develop compelling storytelling. Co-ordinated a series of week-long Training Roadshows across England, training hundreds of staff in online, VJ and Social Media skills.

Supported staff at BBC Look North Yorks to film and edit TV reports using small lightweight cameras. In 18 months I raised the quality of VJ output and doubled the number of video journalists.

Local TV was an innovative pilot service embracing the latest multimedia technology to create and distribute local news and information. My role was to provide 10 minutes of original material for Digital TV and Broadband news bulletins on a daily basis. This involved shooting and editing complete news packages on-the-day, as well as sourcing and setting up stories, working to very tight deadlines.

Produced news reports for the main 18.30 regional news programme using material I had shot and edited.

Radio producer based in BBC London’s Community Affairs Unit, which focused on issues affecting London’s Black communities. .Won the Commission for Racial Equality’s Race in The Media Award for best Radio News Programme (The Eddie Nestor Show) for bringing new voices to radio.Organised BBC London’s coverage of the Notting Hill Carnival, which won the CRE’s Race InThe Media Award for best Radio Entertainment Programme, for making the event accessible to a mainstream audience.

After a year of reporting I became News Editor at this local London black radio station.Broke national stories on gun crime in South London, and the political activities of the far right.
