About Errol Winston Mascarenhas

I am a Battery Application Engineer at Freudenberg e-Power Systems, a leading provider of advanced battery solutions for electric mobility. I work on high-voltage applications for battery electric vehicles (BEV), bridging the gap between customer and internal teams.     I completed my internship in the Centre for sustainable technologies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Having worked for 2 months there, I had the opportunity to learn and get hands-on experience with various equipment. My work was based on wastewater treatment under anaerobic digestion. I collected samples from the already set-up membrane biofilm reactors. The reactors had two stages, anaerobic and aerobic. The collected samples from every stage were checked for turbidity, dissolved oxygen levels, and pH. Furthermore, I checked the surfactant (SDBS) present in the samples by using methylene blue and chloroform. I also conducted photo spectrometry for the samples. My principal work was to find the COD of the samples which I did in triplicates for accuracy using the closed reflux method.Another project which I undertook was to find the permissible limit of surfactants at which anaerobic digestion ceases. I conducted this experiment for 30 days using BMP bottles with different feed/inoculum ratios. Knowing the VS of the sludge, the feed(detergent-SDBS) could be comfortably calculated. The test was also done in triplets using gas chromatography to find the CH4 and CO2 production in each bottle.
