I started as an entry level geologist working in the lab conducting grain size analysis and being an extra hand in the field. I pulled jon boats upsteam to collect data, carried backpacks full of sediment samples to be later analyzed in the lab, and endured long days collecting bathymetric and side scan sonar data on a boat. Once I even sunk waist deep in mud collecting vibracores. Over the years, I found myself taking more of a lead on projects in the field, including topographic surveying with our total station. I am now the FAA Part 107 certified UAV pilot for MGS. Back in the office, I began to focus on projects that involved GIS, such as rates of shoreline erosion change throughout Maryland and creating bathymetric maps from our collected data. I enjoy working with my coastal geology team whether we are in the field or in the office. I am a well-rounded coastal geologist because I've been able to dip my toes into a variety of projects. I enjoy planning and keeping track of projects to make sure they are submitted in a timely manor to clients and communicating with my colleagues. Every project is a little different, every site is a little different, and every day is a learning experience.
