Mr. Kieck started his career at the Department of Agricultural Engineering Soil Conservation Works as an Industrial Technician in Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape and moved to the Humansdorp District after completing his Diploma. He ran the office for Soil Conservation with a very proactive approach. Mr. Kieck had obtained computer programs from the private sector to speed up design methods for surveys/ designs required for various works servicing the farmers requirements according to duties of Farm planning, water pipelines, dams, soil conservation works (contours & waterways), Soil Classification, underground drainage.He helped form a computer committee after compiling a program to enable all officials to use the computer process applications reducing the time drastically and increasing output and production. He received a prestigious award for this dedication and commitment.• Farm planning subsidy scheme: administration & application of conservation works for the government subsidy to farmers.• Waterways: Design/construction of water ways in the Eastern Cape, typically the water way design in highly erodible lands such as pineapples, chicory and citrus.• Contours/storm water drains: survey and construction earthworks of soil conservation measures in the form of earth walled storm water drains and contours record distance in one day = 13km• Soil conservation structures: Design and construction of soil conservation measure concrete weir dams, gabions, and wind breaks.• Farmland Rehabilitation: Planning and executing rehabilitation of farmland in the Eastern Cape area as a result of damage caused by floods.• Concrete waterways: Design/construction of concrete water ways in the Gamtoos River Valley, Eastern Cape• Earth Dams: Survey, Design & supervise construction of earth dams for water on farms• Underground drainage: surveys/design of drainage systems for waterlogged lands and brack conditions.
