I enjoy realising great results. To make an impact. Not only for others, but also for myself. Like I tell others that ‘you learn the most by doing thing’, I apply this myself as well. Not only do you develop yourself better, but you also create understanding and enthusiasm to keep on building this way. Especially when you combine this with a bit of conceptual thinking. This way you create results that fit in the bigger picture, last longer and that you can be truly proud of. I apply this in all aspects of my life. Whether it concerns building (culinary) dishes, software or companies, I enjoy tackling things from start to finish, am not afraid to work hard and I set a high bar for myself. While I like doing things myself, this doesn’t mean alone. I really enjoy working together with other people with the same drive and complementary expertise, to make an even bigger impact. Furthermore I really value pragmatism: you can only create value when you apply theory in practice. This is what I noticed (as well) during my study computer science in Leiden, working on my thesis in the healthcare sector. I saw that:1) Many people and disciplines and people know too little of data science (DS) and machine learning (ML) to realise its potential, let alone create value with it. 2) Reality is always messier, less predictable and more challenging than you’d expect. Especially when it concerns data. That is why in 2014, during my studies, I started Landscape. I love seeing how we developed over the years and that I can do what I enjoy: making an impact by helping people realise the potential of DS and ML – including artificial intelligence (AI) – and to tackle the challenge of translating practical problems into practical solutions.
