My role is to develop and execute methods for estimating how many Canadians are exposed to select carcinogens in the workplace. I also work with stakeholders and team members to support research projects, create accessible end-use products, and to develop and review exposure materials, presentations, grant applications, and website materials. Current research projects focus on cancer knowledge and myths in Canada, and inequities in workplace exposures by sex and gender.

In this role at the Occupational Cancer Research Centre, I supported various research initiatives on the causes and prevention of occupation-related cancers, with the ultimate goal of controlling control workplace carcinogenic exposures and improving the health of workers. I co-ordinated a multi-organizational research project involving multi-jurisdictional workplace radon sampling. I mobilized research findings and developed policy recommendations for reducing workers’ occupational carcinogen exposures (highlighted in the “Burden of Occupational Cancer in Ontario” report), by conducting an environmental scans and consulting with occupational health and safety stakeholders.

I coordinated and executed the environmental surveillance program roll out to key environmental health stakeholders within Alberta. I trained and provided support for stakeholders to use a new surveillance tool that monitors microbial water quality. This was done through a variety of communication channels, including in person meetings, remote desktop sessions, and videoconference.

I collaborated with a multidisciplinary team, including speech language pathologists, behavioural specialists, and occupational therapists, to develop action plans for autistic children. I demonstrated independency and awareness by working individually with the children, making adaptations to action plans based on behavioural outcomes. I also helped build capacity within the families to improve their ability to care for their children's needs.

I researched carbon dioxide and methane cycling in the high Arctic. This was a remote field setting, which required careful planning, flexibility, and adaptability. I demonstrated ability to learn new technology and methods (methane and carbon dioxide sample collection, gas chromatography).
